An Icon’s Birthday. Celebrating Ranell Brown.

An iconic woman of warmth, style and grace. That’s how I would describe her.
And while my heavy heart acknowledges she’s not here to celebrate her birthday today, I will forever celebrate every incredible influence she’s had on my life.

Ranell was…

Daughter to my sweet (and sassy) Mema who affectionately longs to be with her daughter every day,
My father’s sister (and biggest cheerleader),
Wife to my incredible uncle Steve,
Mother to Matt and Meredith,
Lulu to her grandchildren,
The favorite aunt to her nieces and nephews,
The Family quarterback, gracefully calling all the plays,
A friend to everyone she met,
And among many other things, she was an icon to me.

Always there, listening and giving the best advice, my aunt Ranell made me feel exclusively special. Since moving back to Oklahoma, many people have shared their memories and stories about Ranell that ultimately revealed how special she made them feel. I quickly noticed the common thread.”Exclusively special” was the way Ranell made everyone feel. It was one of her countless gifts and she shared it – unconditionally.

In Ranell’s absence, The Fleuriste is lucky enough to now host the Crafty Crafters. This fabulous group of ladies historically met at Ranell’s house two Thursdays a month, for years and years. Inevitably, crafts transpired, as did lunch and lots of laughter and catching up. No one had to be particularly “crafty”; because at its core, this was really just a group friends who genuinely loved each other and wanted to spend time together. No technology, social media, texting, blogging or FaceTime, just friends connecting in real life. I must confess, Crafters are my guilty pleasure because they carry on that “exclusively special” feeling. These ladies fill my heart and wrap me in the spirit of Ranell every time they come to The Fleuriste. I’m so thankful that they’ve allowed me to join their friendship circle.

Ranell was so much more than I could ever aspire to be…she was Ranell… iconic, true and good.

So today, I say to my Aunt Ranell…

Happy Birthday dear!
You are celebrated, cherished, loved
and most certainly missed.
xoxo… Allison

Challenge Accepted

I’m sure by now you’ve heard all about the latest internet sensation…the Mannequin Challenge. While prepping for Flower School last week, Team Fleuriste had some fun and got in on the mannequin action! { I have a feeling the whole world will participate in this challenge when everyone is sitting in a turkey coma on Thanksgiving day }

Modern Elegance

Contemporary, sleek, modern and elegant…these are just a few adjectives that accurately describe today’s #WeddingWednesday feature! Morgan and Omar are total trendsetters and it showed in their wedding style. Team Fleuriste loved getting to step up our creative game for this stylish couple!

Morgan & Omar | The Fleuriste

Our friends at Eventures { remember meeting them? } completely transformed Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club with drapery lined walls and set the bar high with their production design so we had to bring it with the floral design!

The head table was a total show-stopper of white phalaenopsis orchids and greenery suspended over a glass tabletop lined with white calla lilies! Acrylic tubing set the frame for this gravity-defying floral design. Lets also take a moment to acknowledge the glam factor that the combination of gold, white and glass/acrylic created! Simply stunning.

Gold tree stumps were used to create the base of the head table as well as the cake table. Amy Cakes did a fantastic job with this one-of-a-kind cake, which we accented with more white phalaenopsis orchids.

The bride’s bouquet was a stunning display of white vanda orchids { vanda orchids are a very rare flower that Team Fleuriste loves to use when given the chance! }. Omar presented the bouquet to Morgan before the ceremony, honoring a tradition of the groom giving his bride one last gift before they marry.

The escort card “table” was actually a tree accented with even more white phalaenopsis orchids around the base. The leaves falling from the tree had the guest names and table numbers written on them. Is this incredible or what?! We loved creating it, along with all of the other incredible floral elements, for Morgan and Omar. Of course, we’ve only highlighted a few of those details here so you’ll definitely want to see them all by clicking HERE!

Cheers to Morgan & Omar! Here’s to a lifetime of modern elegance!

{ Feature Friday } Sergio!

Welcome back to another edition of Feature Friday! One-by-one, we’re introducing you to all of the members of Team Fleuriste and today is all about Sergio. He is a vital part of our floral crew, our in-house photographer and our comic relief. Don’t let his quietness fool you – this lady’s man makes the girls say, “Screw the band – I’m with Sergio!” Sergio, Sergie or Serge – different names, same awesome dude. Here he is, in his own words:

Sergio

Who is your favorite superhero? Dr. Manhattan from the Watchmen graphic novel. I can’t really say he was a good guy or a bad guy, he just kinda left earth to create a universe of  his own. It felt like a “deuces, you guys suck. I’m going to go make some people of my own far away from you guys.” He brought peace to Earth though, even if it was through a huge lie.

What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t working? I enjoy listening to music, drawing and wondering what Whoopi Goldberg is doing RIGHT NOW! I also like drinking coffee and making music.

What is your favorite part of your job? My favorite part about working at The Fleuriste is definitely processing flowers. We just have all kinds of flowers coming in all of the time and its nice to see something new every week and learning about it. The Fleuriste gets flowers from all over the world all the time, literally all over the world.

If you could win the gold medal in any sport at the Olympics, which would it be? Synchronized swimming definitely, or maybe ice skating. Really anything with a cool outfit…I wouldn’t be good at it, I’d just be wearing a cool outfit.

What is your favorite restaurant in OKC? I don’t really have a favorite restaurant in OKC, I just like trying new things. So if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

If you won a Grammy, which type of music would it be for? I would win a grammy for best hip hop artist. Don’t let these kind eyes fool you, under this boyish charm I am a straight stunna.

What is your favorite flower? I love Peonies, they’re my favorite for sure. It takes them a while to open up but once they do, they’re beautiful.

{ After the Holidays, Holiday Party }

IMG_0496

2013 was an exciting year at The Fleuriste!   We finally got through the holidays and realized a social gathering was in order … one where we could unwind and celebrate a great year!  { One where we might just get Elfed Up }

With stunning views of the Myriad Botanical Garden and Downtown Oklahoma City, Team Fleuriste and friends enjoyed hors d‘oeuvres and libations at the beautiful Historic Landmark Colcord Hotel!  The Colcord’s Sullivan Room was the perfect venue and definitely “the place to be” that night!  Bring The Party Productions provided the perfect dance jams and The SNL Booth captured all the fun we were clearly having with their fabulous props and photo booth.
